One manuscript copy (1 vol. 299 pp.) of the 1839 edition of John Clare's "Shepherd's calendar with village stories and other poems" transcribed by G. Silverlock and presented to his son Orestes Silverlock. The text includes an introduction from "Village minstrel" as well as poems from other works by Clare. The work is written in fine calligraphy and includes a hand drawn frontispiece, title page, and publishers advertisements. Accompanying the manuscript is one item of correspondence from E. Blunden to Mrs. Wrangham discussing the text.

The Grand River Conservation Authority Library was donated in 2005, accompanying the archival records of the Authority and its predecessors.

The Library was maintained at the GRCA headquarters for reference and research use and consists of works by and about the GRCA, including both internal and external reports and studies, periodicals, and monographs.

Unpublished library items are described as part of the GRCA archives while published items are catalogued as print material and are listed in the library catalogue.

One handwritten notebook with select passages and mathematical diagrams from Newton's Philosophiæ Naturalis Principia Mathematica. A note in the text indicates that this was likely copied from an 1826 edition of the work.

Account book kept by William Henderson during the period 1841-1880. Some personal diary entries are also written, including a reference to William's 74th birthday and losing his sister's spectacles. William Henderson likely lived in Dover, New Hampshire and makes references to the Piscataque RIver, Wolfeboro New Hampshire, and Nottingham New Hampshire.

One item of correspondence from H.W. Peterson to Samuel Bowman. The letter is dated and addressed July 31, 1841, Berlin [Kitchener]. In the letter H.W. Peterson, J.P. [Justice of the Peace] instructs Samuel Bowman, in his role as Clerk of the Township of Waterloo, to give money from Benjamin Bowman (poundkeeper) to Jacob E. Schneider (overseer of highways).

Notebook containing handwritten mathematical problems, solutions, and diagrams. Also inset are mathematical problems and solutions clipped from a newspaper and a report card from Alexandria Boarding School in Alexandria, Virginia.

File consists of one blank album used as a botanical specimen book. Includes 84 flower and tree specimens with identifications and descriptions of time of year they were found. An inscription on the first page indicates that the album was maintained by Elizabeth Austin with specimens from S.L. Wood.

Item is a manuscript prayer book from 1844. On the page facing the front cover, at the head of the ownership note, is the motto "God is the purest love". Underneath is a note stating "This prayer book belongs to me, Emiliae Geyer, in Schneidmuhl 1844". On the title page is the motto, "God is our father", and underneath that is a note describing the book as a pious prayer book on prayers for morning, evening, communion as well as holiday prayers and the four alter gospels. The book also contains hand-drawn illustrations in ink and watercolour of religious imagery such as Jesus and St. Johannes.

Material relating to members of the Isaac Lucius Bowman family, their interests and activities. Some of the most significant local material in the fonds originates with the Bowman family. Isaac Lucius Bowman was born at Freeport in 1830, and was founder and principal of the Freeport Academy from 1867-1872. This very early educational institution is here documented with Proceedings of the Academy, ephemera, and two photographs of the members of the Academy. I. L. Bowman then trained to be a Provincial Land Surveyor, and many of the very early plans and maps in the fonds are from the Bowman Family belongings. Of his four sons, three also became surveyors and Engineers, while Hervey attended the Universities of Toronto and the Leipzig. His files relate mostly to his educational pursuits, but include some other family-related materials.

One journal kept by Colin Rankin from March 9, 1848, the day he assumed charge of the Mattawa Post, to August 16, 1853, the day before his departure. The journal includes ca. 50 pages of dated and undated notes, poems, transcripts and quotations, not kept in diary format.

File consists of two identical upper body studio portrait photographs of David Sovereign Bowbly in his graduation cap and gown.

The contents of these files were assembled by Seagram Museum Staff from a variety of sources, and consist of original documents, including clippings, correspondence, ephemera, estate records, photographs, scrapbooks, wills, etc. Some documents are photocopies. Wherever possible the original Seagram Museum accession number is included in the descriptions. As the materials were acquired from several sources, coverage is uneven. The largest group of materials centres around Joseph Edward Frowde Seagram, grandson of Joseph Emm Seagram, with lesser focus on his father, Edward Frowde, and grandparents, Joseph Emm Seagram and Stephanie Urbs. A few documents are present relating to the estate of Octavius Seagram, father of Joseph Emm, as well as wills and associated correspondence of Wiltshire Seagrams. Photographs of the McLachlan family of Guelph, Ont., of the Bland Family, and of Warnock family members are present, as is biographical material pertaining to the Hespeler family as well as to the Seagram family.

Also included is materials relating to their family work in the newspaper industry in Kitchener. Includes personal records of John Motz, his son William John, and his grandchildren John George and John Edward as well as their respective wives. Also includes materials related to Rittinger and Motz, and the various newspaper that were owned and operated by the company. Materials include photographs, biographical records, correspondence, clippings, legal documents, stationary and a scrapbook.

Letter from George Davidson in Aberdeen, Scotland to his wife Margaret in New Aberdeen, C.W., responding to the news of the death of their infant son: "The intelligence was painful, more so than had I been present with you, for altho' my friends here feel deeply with me, still you were awaiting." He speaks of the comfort that their belief offers, and continues: "I thank God that you are living & that I have so near a prospect of meeting you again – how happy I shall be to see you & this feeling is strengthened from the fact that you will be the same regarding me." He will be on the steamer Europa from Liverpool to New York and lists in detail the amount of time it will take to be back in New Aberdeen. (includes envelope sealed with family crest)

Letter from John Davidson, Fraserburgh, Scotland on October 16, 1848 to his nephew George Davidson, commiserating on the death of George's infant child: "I know that you are of tender heart and will be much affected." John is Assessor and Collector of Road Money in Fraserburgh and as such was out on business when George left for home.

File consists of Mrs. C.S. (Anna Maria) Hall's article "Pilgrimages to English Shrines: The Birthplace of Thomas Chatterton" from The Art-Journal. The pages of this article have been torn from the journal. The article was also reproduced in a book of collected Pilgrimages to English Shrines in 1850.

File consists of one letter from Christian Enslin, bookseller and bookbinder, Waterloo, Ontario to Fredrick Heinitsch, M.D., Lancaster, Pennsylvania requesting the right to "Mother Drops", a medicine created by Dr. Heinitsch on which he held the patent.
The letter also includes information on bookbinding and printing practices in Upper Canada and makes reference to local figures such as Benjamin Eby, Bishop of the Mennonites.

File consist of the Friday April 6, 1849 edition of the London Gazette.

A 2 v. ms. diary Kept by the owner or manager of a distillery in London, England. Entries describe in detail the work and processes carried out each day, and describe as well some of the family and social activities of the writer. The volumes are bound in vellum with brass clasps.
