The Sims family collection encompasses records of the Sims and Cook, Davidson and Garden families retained by members of the two family branches that came together when Harvey James Sims and Florence Katherine Roos married in 1902. Their Sims and Davidson forbears were equally significant in the history of the Waterloo-Wellington area and in the growth and development of agriculture, education, business and government. Harvey James Sims and Florence Katherine Roos were deeply involved in their local community of Berlin, (later Kitchener) Ontario and their own records contain significant additions to our knowledge of local personalities and affairs. Harvey was a childhood and lifelong friend of William Lyon Mackenzie King; they wrote and visited each other regularly. King's sister Bella was also a close friend of Florence from school days on.

Correspondence from Daniel Claus to Captain Matthews. The letter is regarding the capture of Peter Hansen and his servant as members of the rebellion by the Mohawk nation to be used to gather intelligence. The letter also mentions a contract for fresh meat, and that members of the village had been unwell. At this time Claus had been appointed deputy agent of the Six Nations in Canada under Frederick Haldimand.

One travel diary written by an unknown person. The diary recounts a trip to France and Switzerland, with a particular emphasis on mountain climbing in the Swiss Alps. An accompanying item of correspondence addressed to George from Vivian de Sola Pinto of Nottingham University indicates that the traveler saw a woman he presumed to by Mary Shelley in Berne, possibly dating the diary to when Shelley was living in Geneva.
One autograph album kept by an unknown person. The album spans from 1825-1854 and features biblical and literary passages written by those in England and Scotland. Locations include Glasgow, York, London, Newark, Rotherham and more. In the back of the volume is the Lord's prayer written in Malay by a Mr. Trout, Baptist missionary in Batavia, Java.

The first is from Charles Walter Berry (of Berry Bros. & Rudd Wine and Spirit Merchants) and discusses Charles sending a bottle of Tokay for Williamson's wife and the fact that Charles read Williamson's article "Behind my Library Door" in the Spectator. The second and third are from the same unknown correspondent and mentions an article on wine and Monastic cellars.

One photograph album kept by an unknown woman with pictures of famous women. The album is made with wooden boards which feature paintings of a sunset over water and a song sparrow with calligraphic poetry. Each page includes a photograph of a different woman surrounded by a hand drawn frame that speaks to her life and work. Women in the album include Florence Nightingale, Elizabeth Barrett Browning, Dame Millicent Garrett Fawcett, Elizabeth Garrett Anderson, Lady Florence Baker, Mary Somerville, Emily Davies, Johanna Maria Lind, and Rosa Bonheur.

Account book kept by William Henderson during the period 1841-1880. Some personal diary entries are also written, including a reference to William's 74th birthday and losing his sister's spectacles. William Henderson likely lived in Dover, New Hampshire and makes references to the Piscataque RIver, Wolfeboro New Hampshire, and Nottingham New Hampshire.
One accounts book kept by George W. Neale between the period 1850-1874. It is likely that Neale lived in the region of Loudon, New Hampshire and did business with those nearby. These letters are interspersed with details of family life and contain observations about the Sommer family’s immigration to Canada, educational pursuits, health and well-being, relationships, finances, businesses and careers, and more. Additionally, these letters contain commentary on contemporary social and political events including the aftermath of World War II, Quebec separatism, and German politics during the 1970s and 1980s. The fonds also incudes photographs, greeting cards, postcards, pamphlets and related ephemera likely exchanged alongside the letters between family members and friends.

Fonds consists of one diary maintained by Emma Clough of Hudson, New York from the period January 10-March 19, 1884. Emma travels to Washington after visiting friends in New York city and her diary details her tourist activities in both cities. In Washington she meets President Arthur as well as Blanche K. Bruce the first Black Senator, Frederick Douglass, Belva Lockwood, Helen Gougar, Susan B. Anthony and others. Along with shopping, visiting acquaintances and attending social functions, in early March of 1884 Emma begins to attend suffrage meetings which are detailed in the diary.

Ontario gravel pit plans collection.
Collection consists of 82 plans of gravel pits in Ontario. The plans have been collected by Wayne Caston, and he was involved in consulting in many of the projects. The records in this finding aid consist of information taken from an Excel spreadsheet created by Caston with details on each of the plans. A printout of the spreadsheet is also present in the collection. Plans are listed in the order originally provided by the donor on the spreadsheet.

Five land grants from the Department of Indian Affairs granting promised Indigenous lands. The grants are made out to Benjamin Franklin Mutchmor (200 acres), Elizabeth Mutchmor (175 acres), Charles Woodward (100 acres), and Mary Rowe (100 acres). The lands granted were to be for the use of the Ojibwe and Odawa of Manitoulin Island.

Many of the recipes are indicated as being from other women, and names include Mrs. Baker, Bertha, Mrs. McDonald, Mrs. McCollough, Mrs. Duchene, Mémé Langlois, Mrs. McKee, Mrs. Laramie, Mrs. Martin, Mrs. McClelland. All of the recipes are for food, excepting one which is a remedy for rheumatism. The Five Roses Cook Book is also included. The collection also includes personal passports of Ann Lauzon and Helen Lauzon.

Collection consists of five advertisements for Lanteen diaphragms and spermicidal jelly. The advertisements each feature a "curiosa of conception" which includes a fact about conception or childbirth and an accompanying woodcut illustration. Illustrations are by Antonio Frasconi.

File consists of one mounted handkerchief showing a portrait of King George V in military dress [possibly wearing the Order of the Medjidie]. The portrait is surrounded in each corner by images of the Royal Dragoons, Gordon Highlanders, Bengal Lancers and Irish Guards and a border of flags, British, French, Russian, Russian Imperial, Belgian, and one unknown flag [possibly Serbian?].

Collection consists of two scrapbooks maintained by William Phillips. The first includes clippings from newspapers and magazines that date from 1890 to 1914. Included are articles on topics relating to spiritualism, advertisements for mediums, and advertising for spiritualism products including the Ouija board. These materials are glued into "A History of Europe" and most clippings feature underlining of important sections.
The second scrapbook includes both clippings as well as handwritten notes from the spirit world. The notes were sent from friends and family of William Phillips including his wife Elizabeth, sister Fanny, brother John Edward and father Joseph. The notes primarily came through medium P.L.O.A. Keeler at Lily Dale. Most of the clippings are advertisements for publications relating to spiritualism and the occult.

Also a letter by J.S. McCuaig, dated May 17, 1886, about a request for the Crown's recognition of John A. Macdonald. The letter came with attached resolutions about a meeting of the Liberal Conservative Association at Town Hall Cherry Valley in 1886. The work is written in fine calligraphy and includes a hand drawn frontispiece, title page, and publishers advertisements. Accompanying the manuscript is one item of correspondence from E. Blunden to Mrs. Wrangham discussing the text.
