Diary of Frederick Arthur Edmonds.

Contains one black leather bound notebook used by Frederick Arthur Edmonds as a diary. The notebook is ruled, contains some numbered pages, and opens lengthwise. Entries are dated and sporadic, are written in pencil, and include a chart of the names of soldiers from the 16th Platoon, with their identification number, rank, age, marital status, date of arrival in France, religion, next of kin, trade, and courses. Includes a loose leaf of paper in the front pocket of the notebook, and several blank pages. The diary entries are titled "My diary since leaving the 'Ypres Salient'", and detail the movement of troops, destinations, times leaving and arriving places, encampments, training progress, weather, distances from place to place in kilometres, locations of battles, places billeted, conditions in the trenches, descriptions of battles, objectives, conditions, attacks, general notes about casualties, tanks, mines, and descriptions of Edmonds' stay in the Paris Plaz hospital and Le Havre hospital. The diary goes up until just before Vimy Ridge, when Edmonds is invalided home.

Fonds contains two scrapbooks created by Sir Percival Hartley dating from 1921 to 1939. Both contain newspaper clippings and handwritten notes relating to a variety of topics in areas such as theology, physicians, poetry, and the history of England.

Spiritualist manuscript : Mr. and Mrs. Pagesmith and circle.

A manuscript notebook that records the details of séances held by a group of individuals in Weston-super-Mare, England between April 16, 1924 and February 27, 1925. The handwritten entries in the notebook describe the manner in which a circle was opened to begin the séance, any images seen or sensed, whether or not a spirit appeared, all questions and answers made by sitters and spirits, and often include a general summation of the séance. An index featuring a list of topics raised during the séances and the name of the spirit who discussed the topic is available at the back of the notebook. Inserted between page 250 and 251 is a poem handwritten on a blue card dated February 17, 1945 and addressed to Dora written by J. & A.P. In addition, the notebook contains a photograph pasted onto the verso of the flyleaf. The photograph shows four men and eight women, possibly the members of the Spiritualist circle in Weston-super-Mare, England.

Includes footage of a large scale calisthenics demonstration; Korean athlete Sohn Kee-chung, who won the marathon running gold medal while competing for Japan, speaking and signing autographs; a view of Brandenburg Gate and the Kaiser Wilhelm Monument; a partial pan of a busy Berlin street; an exterior view of Amerika Haus; various scenes shot on the Olympic Village grounds and views of buildings there, as well as athletes and delegation members walking on the grounds, practising for events, playing organized activities, and relaxing; a panoramic view of sail boats in what may be Kiel Bay; uniformed officers marching through the street; and the closing ceremonies. Ivan Keffer appears at certain points and is likely the person filming Norman Schneider playing and digging in snow. The majority of the footage consists of scenic landscape views of mountain ranges and lakes taken from moving cards, trains and a gondola, as well as shots taken while stationary on a snow covered mountain and in town squares. Various architectural features, such as the Clock Tower and Hercules Fountain in Augsburg, are included as are shots of towns people and tourists, some dressed in lederhosen and others rock climbing.

A berthing card and meal card issued to Cameron Hill during the Second World War likely when he traveled on a troopship sailing from Halifax Harbour in Halifax, Nova Scotia to Liverpool, England between August and September 1941.

The berthing card indicates that Cameron was assigned to cabin S22, in section 3 of the Sports deck. The meal card indicates that Cameron was assigned to eat first meal (breakfast) during the second sitting at table number 28. The name of the ship that Cameron traveled on is unknown.

Snapshots were taken during John's training in Canada and his time in Europe, and show sporting events; fellow officers and soldiers; towns, buildings, and countryside in Normandy, Belgium and Holland; tanks and other equipment; a post-war ceremony; and other subjects.

Scrapbook includes a telegram from John's parents informing him of his brother Jamie's death, ts. Information relating to battles, a letter to Jessie Martin regarding John's DSO, and other items. Clippings relate to John's involvement in the war and his decoration with the DSO by the Governor General Viscount Alexander. The scrapbook pages are not in order and have been left as found. Some pages contain identification for the photographs.

A Wartime Log.

A log book published by the War Prisoners Aid of the Young Men's Christian Association in Geneva, Switzerland and given to Cameron Hill while he was a prisoner of war during the Second World War. Includes the original letter sent with the book to Cameron Hill by the Young Men's Christian Association.

Cameron filled the log book with poetry, diary entries, lists of rations, excerpts from correspondence, contact information for fellow prisoners of war that he met, and artwork completed by himself or other prisoners of war. In addition, Cameron pasted greeting cards, a photograph as well as Italian and German prisoner of war camp vouchers into the book.

Inside a pocket adhered to the back cover of the log book, Cameron stored additional items he accumulated before and after he was captured as a prisoner of war. This includes a Royal Canadian Air Force leave or pass form issued to Cameron in Halifax, Nova Scotia as well as cinema and opera house tickets for shows in England and a ticket from Iceland for an unknown event or activity. In addition, the pocket contains a Christmas card from the Vatican dated to 1942, an additional memorandum book filled with diary entries, Italian stamps, loose notes, a postal censorship slip, 1 Deutsche Mark, and a 10 Belgian franc banknote.

One receipt is for Cameron's tab at the Officer's Mess, R.C.A.F. Station in the town of Bournemouth dated May 29, 1945. One receipt is possibly for a hotel room or a similar accommodation also dated May 29, 1945.
