John Roat's Commercial Hotel After Fire, Site of the Walper Hotel, ca. 1892.

Copy negatives from an old photograph ang Page 255 of W. V. Uttley's book "A history of Kitchener, Ontario" (1975). Taken by Sebastian Fischer, the photo is of John Roat's Commercial Hotel, at the corner of Queen and King, following a fire. One of the negatives includes a photograph of the first ambulance with nurses. Also included in the file are typed captions about the hotel and the ambulance that read:

Article "C.W.A. Meet, Waterloo, July 1st and 2nd," Saturday Globe, June 22, 1895: [1]. This article concerns the annual meet of the C.W.A. [Canadian Wheelman's Association?] to be held in Waterloo, Ont. in 1895. Joseph E. Seagram was Honorary President of the Waterloo Bicycle Club and donated a horse as a prize for this meet. The article also includes two images of the Waterloo Bicycle Club Track, as well as portraits of local individuals: D. Approximately two hundred and twenty-five leaves of manuscript notes written by E Palmer Patterson about the Haida at Fort Simpson, BC. The notes were originally housed in a package titled, Haida. Fort Simpson, BC is now known as Lax-Kwʼalaams, BC.

A manuscript (approximately seventy-five leaves) for a work titled, “Stikine Tlingit traders to Fort Simpson, B.C. in mid-19th century,” written by E Palmer Patterson. The term Stikine is an anglicized variant name for the Shtaxʼhéen Ḵwáan. Fort Simpson, BC is now known as Lax-Kwʼalaams, BC.

One studio portrait of Annie Nash Fry (wife of Samuel Fry) seen looking at camera. Annie is shown late in life wearing a bonnet which ties at her neck, and glasses. Also includes one print of the identical portrait with a poem. Item may be a funeral card. Identification from verso with birth date as 1819 and death as 1903. Identification is uncertain however, as a print with a poem about the woman identifies the woman as Nancy Fry (possibly familiar form of Anna).

Poem reads:

We meet, in thankfulness to-day,
For blessings showered on our way.
May all our hearts with love abound
As once again we gather round
The heartstone of Aunt Nancy.
