Environmental Portfolio Chairperson's Files : Peter W. Hand

Series consists of material created and accumulated by Peter Hand in his role as Chair of the Environmental Portfolio from 1997-1999 and co-chair in 2000-2001. The Environmental Portfolio was responsible for addressing issues of water quality, forest, land use, waste management and wildlife; during this period, much of the focus was on land use, especially resort development on the Muskoka lakes.

The series contains material relating to MLA responses, sometimes in partnership with other local associations, to proposed developments at the Lake Joseph Club, the Lake Rosseau Beach Resort, the Muskoka Sands Resort, and other locations. Responses include submissions to the Township of Muskoka Lakes and the District Municipality of Muskoka relating to re-zoning applications and amendments to site plans, as well as appeals to the Ontario Municipal Board.

Series includes correspondence and memoranda, reports, notices, handwritten and typed notes, photocopied newspaper clippings, meeting minutes and agendas, draft amendments and by-laws, photocopied plans and maps, and other material. Most material is faxed or photocopied.

Most files were probably kept or acquired by Oreen Campbell, who was responsible for writing the history of the association during the 1980s. Doerr Company, The Dare Company Limited, and Dare Foods Limited for biscuits, crackers, potato chip and candy products. Series includes colour slides of redesigned packages and coupons. Tin tie packages were introduced with one line in 1957.

Series consists of information sheets for cracker, candy, and cookie products. The sheets were used by sales personnel across Canada to advertise products to potential buyers. Sheets include colour images of products and product specifications. Three copies of a colour photograph of cracker products, and display signs are also included. These records replaced the earlier picture books and were also distributed by the sales office.

Series consists of material relating to Ross Dixon Financial Services from the late 1980s to 2002.

In 1977 Ross Dixon became a local agent for a trust company and soon established Ross Dixon and Associates. [At some point in the 1980s, Ross Dixon Investments Inc. also existed.] He then sold a majority of his shares to a holding company and formed Ross Dixon Financial Services. In 1992, the holding company Canadian First Financial Group was formed and included Ross Dixon Financial Services among its subsidiaries In 2002, Dundee Wealth Management Inc. purchased all of the assets of this company.

The series is not comprehensive, but contains a small amount of material relating to ownership and administration of Ross Dixon Financial Services, the operation of franchises, and a 1998 employee conference. Series consists of 140 pieces of correspondence and a small amount of related ephemera and clippings. Includes mainly letters written to John Alexander and Jessie Martin from John Gartshore Martin during his service with the Canadian military during World War II, describing his daily activities, social outings, leaves, meetings with friends and relatives, and general news about the war.

Series also contains several letters from Wilson Martin, Jamie Martin, Jamie's financee Muriel Clift, and several other correspondents. The correspondence is in the form of letters, many of which include the original envelopes and stamps; aerograms with original stamps; and telegrams. Series also includes a small amount of correspondence between John Gartshore Martin and an acquaintance from Holland (1994-2004).
