Urquhart moved to London, Ontario in 1960 where he served as the school's first-artist-in-residence, staying on to run the McIntsh Art Gallery and later teach. While in London he was involved with the founding of Canadian Artists' Representation. a non-profit organization Urquhart joined the University of Waterloo in 1972, where he was a founding member of the Department of Fine Arts and taught until his retirement in 1999. He was awarded the Order of Canada in 1995. Urquhart died January 26, 2022 at the age of 87.
